Come join the MSU Denver Admissions Team!

This position’s duties will primarily take place in rural communities in Northeastern Colorado, but will serve and support students from all parts of the state.

Join an Office of Admissions team that is enthusiastic about promoting access to higher education by supporting prospective and incoming Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of High School Outreach and College Access, the Pathways to Possible Counselor shares pre-collegiate, recruitment, enrollment, and retention responsibilities with other members of the High School Outreach team. This position is a key player in the recruitment and outreach efforts of the university and provides counseling to prospective students, applicants, and admitted students to assist the university in meeting enrollment goals.

The Pathways to Possible Counselor is part of the College Access Team, a subset of the High School Outreach Team within the Office of Admissions. The College access team provides dedicated and intentional support to assigned districts with the goal of connecting students to a variety of student support programs available on campus. Pathways to Possible Counselors on the College Access Team will assist with program growth and identifying opportunities to engage with students in 9-11th grade in addition to providing support to seniors in the application timeline.

The overarching goal of Pathways to Possible is to create deep connections and engagement opportunities between the University and specific high schools primarily in Northeast Colorado, but will serve and support high schools around the state. Programming will focus on engaging and supporting underserved students early in pre-collegiate planning and college matriculation. By embedding Pathway Counselors in underserved communities, Pathways to Possible will facilitate a new innovative program designed to recruit and support underserved high school students, including Hispanic/Latinx, Black, Indigenous and other students of color along with low-income and first-generation students, who might otherwise not have opportunities to pursue a college career and reap the benefits of a college diploma.

In order to meet these objectives, the Pathway to Possible Counselor position requires extensive communication with various offices at MSU Denver including: the Office of Admissions, Enrollment Services, the Student Support and Retention team, various student affairs departments, academic departments as well as administrative, counseling, and teaching staff at each of the program’s target high schools.

The Pathways to Possible Counselor position is a temporary, 2-year grant-funded position.
