Update on the Counselor Corp Program

News Release :: February 4, 2011

The JBC voted today to take $782,000 from the remaining initial 3 year CC grant cycle funds. The grant is offered to a set of schools for the full 3 year cycle with declining amounts each year in hopes of reducing school dependency on state aid for these services. No new schools are accepted into the program after the first year's round of rfp's. So that means this $782,000 balance is currently unused and is unallocated to any of the current cycle's recipients because of the declining award allocations.

As far as reauthorizing another 3 year grant—Sen Steadman told us this morning that he plans to propose the next 3 year cycle of the CC be funded at a $4.3M - $4.5M level, which takes into account the actual amount of funds the grant distributed during the first cycle.

This is good news, you are sharing some of the funding burden by giving up the current remaining unallocated funds while still hopefully being funded for another 3 year cycle.

Stay tuned. Let me know if you have any questions.
