The Academic Affairs division of the Colorado Department of Higher Education is seeking a College Access Coordinator to work under the College Access Challenge Grant (CACG), funded by the US Department of Education. CACG will provide $1.6 million to the state and focuses on higher education access, intervention and college retention of low income students. This grant funding cycle begins on August 14, 2010. CACG funds are renewable on an annual basis for up to five years.
The primary focus for this position will be on high school, middle school, pre-collegiate program and community partner outreach in Southern Colorado, including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, San Luis Valley and Eastern Plains. This position will work with students, parents, school counselors and non-profit organizations. The college access coordinator is expected to maintain a strong working knowledge of college admissions, higher education financing, FAFSA completion, scholarships, financial education, education trends, and coordinate, develop, and deliver presentations and workshops on college financing and access.

The position is a full-time, 12 month exempt staff position in the Office of Admission and will work in tandem with an Academic Advisor to enhance recruitment, matriculation and retention efforts. The position will be based in the Front Range area of Colorado. The incumbent will work out of his or her home.
The mission of the Admission Counselor is to help students learn about the admission process and serve as a resource for prospective students and their families. Admission counselors help students and families gain useful knowledge on the admission process, increase awareness about the opportunities of higher education and available areas of study and services at Fort Lewis College. Evening and weekend work will be required.

The Office of Admission seeks an Academic Success Advisor beginning July 1, 2010. This position is a full-time exempt staff position with medical and retirement benefits.
This position will work with an admission counselor as part of a results-oriented Recruiting-Matriculation-Retention (R-M-R) team for an assigned geographic territory. Each team is responsible for setting recruiting, matriculation, and retention strategies for their territories and for following through with them with freshmen, transfer, returning, and unclassified students.
In the team, the Academic Success Advisor has special responsibilities to assist each new student in creating an academic course schedule for their first semester and to support them in becoming engaged with the campus and academically successful. After the first semester, the Academic Success Advisor plays a secondary role to the faculty advisor in assisting students in re-enrolling for future semesters.
The Academic Success Advisor will approach their students with a whole student approach, taking into account academic progress, leadership and community development, financial issues, and health/wellness concerns.
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Director of the Office of Admission.

The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for identifying, educating and performing outreach activities, targeting public relations and educational efforts to help students develop a postsecondary plan. He/She will assist to fulfill the goals and objectives of the Outreach program. Develop and conduct presentations and/or training sessions for College In Colorado for both middle and high school counselors and related staff. Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with counselors, teachers and school administrators to further support of and goodwill towards the College In Colorado initiative. Travel throughout the Front Range, as well as occasional travel to other regions of the state to various outreach events including career fairs, parent nights, classroom presentations and other school functions. Outreach to junior and high school students, parents, and faculty to ensure understanding of the College In Colorado Website and other products/services offered. Assist in preparation and administration of internal and external conferences and trainings by helping prepare presentations, agendas, handouts, and other materials as needed.
